چکیده

Excited-state vibrational coherence of solution-phase polyatomic molecules was studied by two different timedomain spectroscopic methods. Raman-active low-frequency vibrations in the excited state of trans-stilbene were observed by transient impulsive stimulated Raman scattering spectroscopy. In transient absorption spectroscopy with a 40-fs resolution, a different vibrational mode of the same excited state was observed as a “beat” in the pump-induced absorption signal. We discussed the selection of the vibrational modes by noting the difference in the third-order optical processes relevant to the two spectroscopies. The vibrational coherence of a “reacting” excited state was also observed for ultrafast photodissociation of diphenylcyclopropenone.

Ultrafast spectroscopy with sub-10 fs deep-ultraviolet pulses.

Time-resolved transient absorption spectroscopy with sub-9 fs ultrashort laser pulses in the deep-ultraviolet (DUV) region is reported for the first time. Single 8.7 fs DUV pulses with a spectral range of 255-290 nm are generated by a chirped-pulse four-wave mixing technique for use as pump and probe pulses. Electronic excited state and vibrational dynamics are simultaneously observed for an aq...

Vibrational polarization beats in femtosecond coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy: A signature of dissociative pump–dump–pump wave packet dynamics

Knopp et al. @J. Raman Spectrosc. 31, 51 ~2000!# have recently used resonant femtosecond coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy ~CARS! to prepare and probe highly excited vibrational wave packets on the ground electronic potential surface of molecular iodine. The experiment uses a sequence of three resonant femtosecond pulses with two independently variable time delays. The first two pulses ac...

Perspectives for coherent optical formation of strontium molecules in their electronic ground state

Optical Feshbach resonances Phys. Rev. Lett. 94, 193001 2005 and pump-dump photoassociation with short laser pulses Phys. Rev. A 73, 033408 2006 have been proposed as means to coherently form stable ultracold-alkali-metal dimer molecules. In an optical Feshbach resonance, the intensity and possibly frequency of a cw laser are ramped up linearly followed by a sudden switch-off of the laser. This...

Solvent Effects on Vibrational Coherence and Ultrafast Reaction Dynamics in the Multicolor Pump-Probe Spectroscopy of Intervalence Electron Transfer

A detailed investigation of ultrafast photoinduced electron transfer (ET) in a mixed valence compound ((NH3)5RuNCRu(CN)5; RuRu) in formamide, ethylene glycol, and glycerol was performed using variable wavelength femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy over a broad range of pump and probe wavelengths. The ET kinetics were monitored by observing recovery of the ground state population. The spectra ar...

Electronic dephasing of molecules in solution measured by nonlinear spectral inteferometry

Preparation and probing of coherent superposition of quantum states leading to quantum coherence in condensed phase systems has been the topic of intense research for over a decade. The solvent environment complicates these measurements through inhomogeneous broadening, changes in polarity, and by greatly increasing the number of degrees of freedom; making condensed phase molecules some of the ...
